thump:bit is a micro:bit robotic drummer kit for the micro:bit. It can be controlled wirelessly or run its own drumming code and is designed to be easy to use with the micro:bit orchestra extension for makecode so you can be up and running with your thump:bit in no time!
The thump:bit PCB has two outputs that can drive solenoid electromagnets or other devices. The ouputs are 9V and are switched on and off by the micro:bit*.
The circuit board is powered by a 9V battery with an on/off switch, and uses an onboard 3.3v regulator to provide power to the micro:bit
*micro:bit not included
ASSEMBLY:
Whats in the kit?:
Laser-cut parts for press-fit assembly of the thump:bit rabbit.
1x thump:bit PCB
2x neodynium magnets
5 screws and threaded cylinders to mount the thump:bit PCB to a micro:bit
1x solenoid electromagnet
if you select the "thump:bit mini + smol bunny" variant, you get an additional solenoid electromagnet and laser-cut parts for a second tiny bunny that is controlled by the larger bunny.
Your thump:bit rabbit will respond to radio messages with its name and a number. the numbers 0-4 correspond to different ways of striking whatever its standing on to make noise.
number 4 will make the thump:bit send a 9V pulse on output B for a "smol bunny" or whatever else you connect.
You can test the different thump sounds with the A button, and cycle through the sounds to test with the B button.
Pressing A and B at the same time will put the thump:bit in "dual thump mode" where it will alternate the different sounds between output A and output B
